The Photographic Technology program is designed to prepare students for a career in the field of Photographic Arts by developing occupational skills, creative problem solving and the experience necessary to be successful in this widely diversified field.
The goals of this program are to:
- introduce the visual language, history and aesthetics of photographic images and develop creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills;
- successfully complete a 90-hour internship in a professional venue; and
- present traditional and state-of-the art technologies, tools and techniques for making photographic images.
Successful graduates from this program will be able to:
- explain the compositional structure and analyze the content of their own and other students’ photographic images and create unique solutions to photographic assignments;
- explain a portion of the photographic industry and how it functions and communicate their personal experience in the internship setting; and
- expose, process and print traditional black and white and digital images of a professional quality.
Career Opportunities/Transfer Information
Graduates find employment in commercial photo studios, photojournalism, corporate industrial photo units, hospitals, retail and wholesale photographic supply businesses, photographic laboratories, government agencies and public relations firms. Some of our graduates transfer to four-year colleges such as Rochester Institute of Technology, SUC at Purchase, SUC at New Paltz, SUC at Oswego, SUC at Buffalo, Nazareth College and Cazenovia College.
