SUNY CODE: 1443
The Art Studies program is designed for students whose goal is either to transfer into an arts education program in order to teach art in an elementary or secondary school (Art Education concentration below), or to transfer to a four-year college to specialize in creative art therapy (Creative Art Therapy concentration below).
The goals of this program are to:
- introduce students to the concepts, theories and research which define the disciplines of art education or art therapy;
- introduce students to the use of visual elements and principles of design, and use them to create visually successful and emotionally expressive art works in two or three dimensions; and
- present students with a variety of materials and techniques in art as they relate to educational and therapeutic settings.
Successful graduates from this program will be able to:
- identify, describe and explain the concepts, theories and research which defines the disciplines of Art Education or Art Therapy;
- create a visually expressive work of art that successfully uses the visual elements and principles of design; and
- choose the appropriate materials and techniques to express their ideas in a work of art.
