ED 101 Observation and Assessment in Young Children
This course prepares students to use systematic observations, documentation, and other classroom based assessment techniques to understand young children's growth and development. Students will use the information gained to plan curriculum that is responsive to and supportive of children's learning and development from preschool through second grade. Observation and assessment will focus on physical, cognitive, language, and social/emotional development. Students will compile various assessments in a study of one child's development over the course of the semester. Fifteen hours of preservice contacts are required to complete assignments throughout the course. Observation site is located at the Herkimer College Childcare Center, an NAEYC accredited program, or another approved program. Students must provide their own transportation to off-campus locations.
