CJ 185 Community Relations

This course examines the community and what is expected of police officers and their interactions with the community. Emphasis will be placed on the handling of victims as well as witnesses, crime prevention, and strong police/community relations. Topics covered in this course include Mental Illness, Persons with Disabilities, Intoxication, Victim Witness and Community Resources, Crimes Against the Elderly, Cultural Diversity, Bias Related Incidents, Sexual Harassment, and Community Oriented Policing. These topics are mandated by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for the Basic Course for Police Officers. Open only to Pre-Employment Police Basic Training Majors.
