SS 190 Introduction to Gender Studies
This is an introductory course to educate students on the basic concepts of the study of gender through a feminist perspective. It is a close examination of the status of women and men in today's society across all borders: race, class, sexual orientation, religion. It covers topics such as politics, media and music, health and the body, globalization, relationships, work and wages. It will examine the social institutions and cultural representations affecting gender today by taking a brief look at how both men and women's roles have been socially and culturally constructed. Through a multi-disciplinary perspective, students will learn to think critically about how their lives are shaped in regards to gender: historically, psychologically, culturally, and globally.
