Institutional History

It was in the 1960s that the State University of New York Master Plan identified Herkimer County as a potential community college site, a location and a community that showed great promise to support such an important endeavor. Overlooking a small village in Upstate New York, Herkimer County Community College is a two-year unit of the State University of New York, the nation's largest comprehensive system of public higher education. A two-year degree from Herkimer prepares students for jobs or to continue their education at a four-year school.

This year, Herkimer College celebrates 50 years of excellence. We invite you to peruse our 50th anniversary events, points of pride, and a detailed chronological history highlighting special dates and milestones in the College's history.
