Institutional History
It was in the 1960s that the State University of New York Master Plan identified Herkimer County as a potential community college site, a location and a community that showed great promise to support such an important endeavor. Overlooking a small village in Upstate New York, Herkimer County Community College is a two-year unit of the State University of New York, the nation's largest comprehensive system of public higher education. A two-year degree from Herkimer prepares students for jobs or to continue their education at a four-year school. Please take a look at the information on our web site that will take you through some special dates and milestones in the College's history. And do take the opportunity to visit us on campus if your travels take you this way - you'll be amazed to see how the College has evolved over four decades.
