Students graduating with an A.S. in Accounting are prepared to study Accounting further at four-year colleges and universities.

The goals of this program are to:

  • prepare students to understand and apply basic accounting theory;
  • provide students with a working knowledge of business, economics and finance; and
  • present accounting students with an option to study a wider variety of elective courses in liberal arts, math, science and humanities in addition to a core accounting curriculum.

Successful graduates from this program will be able to:

  • use generally accepted accounting principles and methods to collect, organize, report and interpret financial information;
  • use financial software to complete each step of the accounting cycle;
  • think conceptually, analyze rationally and communicate effectively in business, economics and financial terms; and
  • apply a stronger liberal arts foundation when managing knowledge, solving problems, communicating and behaving ethically responsibly and aesthetically in a culturally diverse society.

Career Opportunities/Transfer Information

Most graduates transfer to four-year colleges and universities throughout the northeast including SUNY Institute of Technology, Utica College, SUC at Oswego, SUC at Geneseo, SUC at Plattsburgh, and SUNY Binghamton. The demand for Accounting graduates Is expected to increase as the economy grows. Salaries for accountants remain well above national averages.
